Lumbar & Cervical Spinal Decompression in Auckland
Personalised, non-surgical care for back, leg, neck and arm pain associated with disc and nerve problems.
Disc problems can make everyday activities difficult—from sitting and driving to sleeping comfortably or getting through work.
At Auckland Disc Clinic, part of Dynamic Chiropractic Remuera, we assess your symptoms and spinal function to determine whether decompression is an appropriate option for you.
We use the Core MT spinal decompression system for both the lumbar spine (lower back) and cervical spine (neck), with treatment settings tailored to your presentation, comfort and response.
Spinal decompression is a controlled form of mechanical traction. While you lie supported on the treatment table, the system applies a gradual pulling force through the lower back or neck.
The aim is to temporarily unload the treated region and help improve comfort and movement in suitable patients. We adjust positioning and treatment settings according to your examination findings and how you respond.
Decompression forms part of your clinical care plan. Depending on your needs, this may also include disc-specific manual treatment, chiropractic care, exercises and practical advice about daily activities.
What is Spinal Decompression
Lumbar decompression
May be considered for selected lower-back problems associated with disc bulges and herniations, facet joint injury or degenerative changes including sciatica and pain extending into the buttock or leg.
Cervical decompression
May be considered for selected neck problems associated with disc or nerve irritation, including pain extending into the shoulder or arm, or accompanying tingling and numbness. These may be related to joint or disc injury or degeneration.
A disc finding on a scan does not automatically mean decompression is the right treatment. Your symptoms, examination and relevant imaging need to be considered together.
Lower back or neck—which applies to you?
Following your assessment, suitable patients are comfortably positioned and supported on the Core MT table. Treatment force is introduced gradually and adjusted to your tolerance.
A decompression session usually lasts approximately 25 minutes, within a 30-minute appointment. You may feel a gentle pulling or stretching sensation. Tell us if positioning or treatment feels uncomfortable so we can adjust it.
We monitor changes in your symptoms and everyday function—such as sitting, walking, sleeping and moving—to guide your care.
What does treatment involve?
No. Some people notice improvement early, others improve gradually, and some do not gain enough benefit to justify continuing.
Decompression cannot address every cause of back or neck pain, and it does not guarantee that a disc will return to its original shape or that surgery will be avoided.
If treatment is unsuitable, poorly tolerated or not producing useful progress, we will discuss changes to your plan or an appropriate referral.
Will it work for everyone?
Initial Decompression Assessment
Your first visit is a dedicated 30-minute assessment with Dr David Kay, including your clinical history, a focused examination, neurological screening and review of relevant imaging.
You’ll have the opportunity to understand whether lumbar or cervical decompression is appropriate, what care may involve and the costs before deciding how to proceed.
Assessment: $130. Treatment is not included.
